Marnie's Ranch
Overview

Marnie runs the shop from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on most days, but she is unavailable on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fall 18, Winter 18, and Spring 17 if bus service has been restored. The ranch house itself is accessible from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm every day, even when the shop is closed. If the player has obtained the Animal Catalogue, the shop can also be used even when Marnie is not standing behind the counter.
Marnie's stock includes:
Hay
Heater
- Animal Catalogue, which becomes available in Year 2
- Milk Pail
- Shears
Auto-Grabber, which becomes available at Farming Level 10
Ornamental Hay Bale
Golden Egg, which becomes available once perfection is achieved
- Cow Decal, which becomes available after obtaining it from the prize machine at the Mayor's Manor
- Doghouse
- Dark Doghouse
- Cat Tree
- Dark Cat Tree
- Bird House
She also sells livestock for the main farm buildings:
- Chickens for the
Coop
- Cows for the
Barn
- Goats for the
Big Barn
- Ducks for the
Big Coop
- Sheep for the
Deluxe Barn
- Rabbits for the
Deluxe Coop
- Pigs for the Deluxe Barn
Marnie will not sell animals if the required building is under construction or being upgraded. When buying an animal, the game reveals the animal’s color before the purchase is confirmed, so the player can cancel if they do not want the result shown. Although Marnie sometimes uses male pronouns when referring to certain pigs and sheep at purchase, these animals can still become pregnant normally.
The Ranch also plays a role in a few quests and events. Mayor Lewis’s purple shorts can be found in Marnie’s room for the Mayor's "Shorts" quest. Her room also contains a dresser that can be inspected, and the ranch has a few notable details tied to dialogue and flavor text.
A few useful details make the ranch especially practical early in the game:
- With a
Silo, the player can use a scythe to harvest hay from grass outside Marnie's Ranch if the grass has grown close enough to the fence.
- Additional pet adoption becomes available through Pet Licenses after the player reaches maximum friendship with their first pet, or reaches Year 2 without having a pet.
- Additional pet bowls are not required to adopt more pets, but they prevent friendship loss. The available adoptees include multiple cats, dogs, and turtles.
Marnie's Ranch is one of the most important utility locations in Stardew Valley, since it connects animal husbandry, pet ownership, and several quest-related interactions in a single place.
