Overview

Wheat is a vegetable crop grown from Wheat Seeds. It takes 4 days to mature, passing through four one-day growth stages before it can be harvested. Wheat can be planted in both Summer and Fall, and it behaves the same in either season. If a Wheat plant is in the ground on Summer 28, it will continue growing on Fall 1 as if the season had not changed, and fertilizer underneath it will remain in place. Fully grown wheat can also be left unharvested until Fall 1 to keep fertilized soil and tilled ground from disappearing.

Wheat must be harvested with a Scythe or better. When harvested with any Scythe, it has a 40% chance to drop hay as well, making it useful for players who want to stock up on animal feed while farming. Because it grows quickly and can produce hay, it is often worth dedicating some farmland to wheat even on farms focused mainly on livestock.

Wheat also has several crafting and processing uses. It can be placed in a Keg to produce Beer, and it can be processed in a Mill to make Wheat Flour. One wheat produces one wheat flour, and the flour appears in the Mill’s output box the following morning. Wheat Flour is also used in the Sewing Machine to create the dyeable Crop Tank Top, and wheat itself can be used as yellow dye at the dye pots in Emily and Haley’s house.

Other uses include quests and special requests. Wheat may be randomly requested in Summer on the Help Wanted board outside Stone’s General Store for a reward of gold and 150 Friendship points. A fully grown, unharvested Wheat is also required for Gourmand Frog’s puzzle on Ginger Island.

  • Harvesting wheat with a Scythe is the best way to take advantage of its hay drop chance.
  • Leaving mature wheat unharvested can help preserve fertilizer and tilled soil when the season changes from Summer to Fall.
  • Wheat is a practical crop for farmers who want both quick turnaround and a steady source of hay.
  • Its processing options make it useful beyond raw sale value, especially for Beer, Wheat Flour, and tailoring.
