Staircase

The Staircase is a craftable item used to instantly create a ladder leading down one floor in the Mines or Skull Cavern. It functions like a normal down-ladder, but only for a single use. Once the player leaves the mine or returns to a higher floor, the staircase is consumed permanently. If a staircase is placed and not used, it still cannot be picked back up.

Staircases cannot be placed on floor 0 or floor 120 of the Mines, in the Quarry Mine, or in the Volcano Dungeon. Because they skip a floor immediately, they are especially useful for rushing deeper into the Mines or Skull Cavern, escaping dangerous situations, or bypassing floors that are difficult to clear normally.

• Stone can be bought from Robin at the Carpenter's Shop if the player needs materials to craft more staircases.
• The Desert Trader exchanges one Jade for one Staircase on Sundays, making Crystalariums a reliable way to produce a steady supply.
• Kent also sells Staircases at the Desert Festival for Calico Eggs.
• A placed staircase in the Mayor's bedroom triggers a secret event.
• Staircases can be run through deconstructors after being obtained from Jade trading, which can be used to convert the process into large amounts of stone quickly.

Because they are consumed on use and cannot be recovered once placed, Staircases are most valuable when saved for emergency escapes, deep Skull Cavern runs, or any floor where speed matters more than resource conservation.
