Overview

The Mega Bomb is a one-time-use explosive item that creates a very large blast when detonated. It damages many objects within its radius while leaving others untouched, making it useful for quickly clearing rocks, ore nodes, and other obstacles in dense areas.

Mega Bombs can be crafted or obtained through a variety of sources. The Dwarf sells them in The Mines and the Volcano Dungeon, and the Desert Trader will exchange five Iridium Ore for one Mega Bomb. They can also be bought from the Calico Egg Merchant during the Desert Festival, dropped by Squid Kids, Iridium Bats, Haunted Skulls, and Magma Duggies, and won from the Crane Game in the Movie Theater in any season. Other sources include treasure rooms in the Skull Cavern, supply crates on the Beach Farm after the farmhouse has been upgraded at least twice, Mystery Boxes and Golden Mystery Boxes, the prize machine in the Mayor’s Manor, and occasional gifts in the mail from Kent.

Because of its wide blast area, the Mega Bomb is often awkward to use safely. It is easy for the player to take damage if they are too close, so it is best used with plenty of healing supplies available. If the player has read the Dwarvish Safety Manual, damage from Mega Bombs is reduced by 25%.

Its blast affects a broad set of targets:

  • Rocks and ore or gem nodes break and drop their contents.
  • Mushrooms, Artifact Spots, and foraged minerals are destroyed.
  • Untilled dirt within a smaller inner radius becomes tilled; in The Mines and Skull Cavern, any items on those tiles are dropped at the same rate as when using a hoe, while elsewhere nothing drops unless the tile is the subject of a Secret Note.
  • Crafted artisan machines and refining equipment are destroyed.
  • Heaters are destroyed.
  • Auto-Grabbers are not destroyed, whether they are empty or full.
  • Trees are destroyed once their health reaches zero; four Mega Bombs will knock down a fully grown tree, and two more will remove the stump. Trees drop wood, sap, and any seeds they were holding.

The Mega Bomb’s blast radius is 6–8 tiles, with a diameter of 13–17 tiles. This makes it one of the largest explosive tools available, and it is especially effective for clearing tightly packed terrain or large mineral clusters.

It also has a few niche uses outside of mining. A Mega Bomb can be placed in the sewing machine spool to produce the Bomber Jacket, and it can be used as a red dye in dye pots or in the sewing machine when paired with dyeable clothing. In a Fish Pond quest, two Mega Bombs are requested by Lava Eel to raise the pond capacity from 5 to 7. As a piece of trivia, the Bouncer guarding the Casino will drop a Mega Bomb if the player tries to enter without permission using glitches.
