Overview

Diamond is a Mineral that can be found in several late-game and mid-game locations, most commonly from Diamond Nodes and Gem Nodes in the Mines, Skull Cavern, Quarry, and Volcano Dungeon. Diamond Nodes appear only on Floors 50 and below in the Mines, and after obtaining the power from The Diamond Hunter, any rock mined with a pickaxe has a small chance to produce one. Diamonds can also be obtained from metal crates in the Volcano Dungeon, from several monster drops, from fishing treasure chests, by panning, from garbage cans after reaching the bottom of the Mines, and from a variety of other sources.

It is one of the most valuable gems to put into the Crystalarium, since it provides the largest profit of any gem the machine can duplicate. Diamonds are also universally liked or loved as gifts among giftable NPCs, making them a strong choice whenever a universally useful present is needed. If the player has not yet received 4 candles from Grandpa's Evaluation, placing a Diamond into Grandpa's Shrine allows for a re-evaluation at any time.

Diamonds are used in a few notable gameplay systems:

  • At the Forge, a Diamond gives a random upgrade to a melee weapon.
  • In the Sewing Machine, combining Cloth with a Diamond crafts a dyeable Pendant Shirt.
  • With the sewing spool, a Diamond also acts as a white dye item for dyeable clothing.
  • One Diamond may be requested on the Help Wanted board, with the request unavailable until the player has reached Floor 40 of the Mines.
  • Some fish pond quests can request one or two Diamonds.
  • The Raccoon can request one Diamond as part of his fifth request, and it may also appear in any request starting with the sixth.

Diamonds also have several trading and reward uses. One Diamond can be exchanged with the Desert Trader for a Triple Shot Espresso, and ten Diamonds can be traded to the Volcano Dwarf in the Volcano Dungeon for The Diamond Hunter. Other sources include the Trout Derby festival, the Prize Machine, Ice Pip and Stonefish Fish Ponds at high population, and the Statue Of Endless Fortune, which produces seven Diamonds each year on the birthdays of Evelyn, Gus, Jodi, Krobus, Marnie, Maru, and Willy, as well as a daily chance to produce one on non-birthdays.
