Ice Pip

Ice Pip is a fish that can be caught in the Mines at level 60 and deeper. It is one of the more specialized cave fish in Stardew Valley, and its rarity and cold-themed loot make it especially notable for players working on fish collections, fish ponds, and certain crafting and dyeing uses.

Ice Pip can be placed in a Fish Pond, where it reproduces every 5 days. A pond starts with a capacity of 1 and can be expanded to 10 by completing four population quests. Its primary fish pond output is blue Ice Pip Roe, but as the population rises the pond can also produce other rewards.

• At population 3, the pond can ask for 10 Iron Ore to expand.
• At population 5, it can request 5 Frozen Tears.
• At population 7, it can request 10 Coal, 1 Crystal Fruit, or 5 Frozen Geodes.
• At population 10, it can request 4 Iron Bars or 10 Refined Quartz.

The pond’s production becomes more valuable as the population increases. At low population, it mainly produces roe, while at higher population it can also produce Iron Ore, Frozen Geodes, Frozen Tears, and even Diamonds. The chance of getting nothing drops sharply as the pond fills up, making a fully stocked Ice Pip pond much more reliable than a small one.

Ice Pip also has a few practical uses outside the pond. It can be used in the spool of the Sewing Machine to create a clothing item, and it can be used as a blue dye ingredient at the dye pots in Emily and Haley’s house at 2 Willow Lane.
