Overview

Shrimp is a fish that can be caught in a Crab Pot in any saltwater body of water. It can also be found as a gift from a pet cat with max friendship, or purchased randomly from the Traveling Cart. Like other Crab Pot catches, it cannot be eaten raw, but it can still be used in cooking or smoked.

Shrimp is one of the fish that can be placed in a Fish Pond. In a pond, it reproduces every 2 days, starting with a capacity of 3 fish and growing to 10 after completing the required quests. A Shrimp pond produces pink Shrimp Roe as its main output, along with Seaweed and several trash items. Once the pond population reaches 5 or higher, the reward pool expands to include more valuable items.

The Fish Pond quest progression is:

Fish Pond outputs become more varied as the population grows. Roe is the most common valuable product, while Seaweed and trash items such as Driftwood, Broken Glasses, Broken CD, and Soggy Newspaper appear regularly as well. At higher populations, the pond can also produce Coral, Sea Urchin, a Beach Warp Totem, and Nautilus Shell. Because the pond’s production table changes with population, larger ponds are generally more rewarding, especially if the goal is to obtain roe and occasional rare items rather than just basic filler drops.

Shrimp also has a few practical uses outside the pond. It can be used in the Sewing Machine to create the dyeable Sailor Shirt. It can also be used as a red dye ingredient in the dye pots at Emily and Haley’s house, making it useful for tailoring and dye-related tasks even if it is not needed for cooking or gifting.

A few points make Shrimp easy to work with:

  • It is a Crab Pot fish, so it is obtained through saltwater fishing rather than active rod fishing.
  • A cat with maximum friendship can provide it, which makes it a passive source if the player has a highly bonded pet.
  • It is not edible on its own in the same way as normal fish catches, but it remains useful for recipes and processing.
  • In Fish Ponds, it is a steady producer of roe and a small number of specialty items, with better results at higher population levels.
  • Its tailoring and dye uses give it value even when surplus shrimp are not needed for pond management.

Overall, Shrimp is a modest but flexible fish: common enough to gather passively, useful in a Fish Pond, and occasionally handy for tailoring and dyeing.
