The Stonefish is a fish that can be caught in The Mines on floor 20 during any season. It is one of only two fish available at that depth, alongside the Ghostfish. Its catch rate depends on fishing level and the distance from land of the casting spot, and it can be made more likely to appear by using a Curiosity Lure or Stonefish Bait. At fishing level 10 and a distance of 5, the chance of hooking one is 7.5%; this rises to 12.5% with a Curiosity Lure, 17.5% with Stonefish Bait, and 22.5% when both are used.
Stonefish are unusual among rod-caught fish because they cannot be eaten on their own unless they are used in a recipe. They can also be used in tailoring and as orange dye at the dye pots in Emily and Haley’s house.
Stonefish can be placed in a Fish Pond, where they reproduce every 5 days. The pond starts with a capacity of 1 and can be expanded to 10 through four quests. Their main pond product is dark brown Stonefish Roe, but the pond can also produce other items as the population rises. At population 3 or higher, Copper Ore can appear; at population 9 or higher, the pond can also produce Coal, Geodes, Stone, and a rare Diamond.
Each completed quest grants 45 Fishing XP. In day-to-day production, the pond most often generates Roe, while the chance of getting bonus resources increases with population. At high population, Roe remains the primary output, but the pond also gains access to higher-value items such as Geodes and Diamond, making Stonefish ponds useful both for steady roe production and for mining-related materials.
Because Stonefish are found only in The Mines, they are a convenient target for players who want a pond fish that is easy to restock without waiting for seasonal availability. Their limited location, modest catch pool, and pond usefulness make them a practical fish to keep once unlocked.
