Quality Retaining Soil

Quality Retaining Soil is a fertilizer that gives planted tiles a chance to stay watered overnight. It can be purchased from Stone's General Store starting in year 2, bought from the Oasis on Saturdays, or crafted after reaching Farming level 7. It may also appear in the Traveling Cart’s stock, and 5–7 units can occasionally be found in Supply Crates on the Beach Farm if the player has not upgraded the Farmhouse or has upgraded it only once.

Like other fertilizers, Quality Retaining Soil is placed directly on tilled soil, and it can be applied before or after planting a seed, or even after a crop has already started growing. Once applied, it gives about a 66% chance that the tile will remain watered instead of drying out at the start of the next day. This makes it especially useful for crops that must be tended over multiple days, since it reduces the need for daily watering without requiring an Iridium Sprinkler setup.

Quality Retaining Soil is also a crafting ingredient in the Sewing Machine and dye pots. In the spool of the Sewing Machine, it is used to create the dyeable High-Waisted Shirt. At the dye pots in Emily's and Haley's house at 2 Willow Lane, it acts as an orange dye.

• Its main advantage is reliability early in the game, before advanced watering tools are available.
