unit-oxynoe
Overview
Oxynoe is a Tier 2 naval support unit that appears in naval raids and can be produced from
Naval Factory lines. It combines a short‑range healing flamethrower with a small point‑defense mount, making it primarily a support/buffer unit that repairs friendly structures and chips at incoming projectiles and light targets. Its concept and name are drawn from the sea snail genus
Oxynoe, reflecting its maritime role.
Its primary weapon is a two‑barrel plasma flamethrower that fires in a short cone: it has a high firing cadence (listed as 2×6/sec in some sources) with significant inaccuracy (about 10°), deals roughly 23 damage per hit, applies the
Burning status for about 4 seconds, and restores a small percentage of structure health on hit (plasma flamethrower repair increased historically to 1.5% per hit in patches). The secondary mount is a point‑defense gun that rapidly shoots down enemy projectiles (around 6.66 shots/sec) and deals modest damage to projectiles (historically 15–17 damage).
Oxynoe’s movement speed and capacity have been tuned across updates (speed standardized to about 6.22 tiles/s in one patch; item capacity was reduced from 60 to 50).
In practice,
Oxynoe is not a main front‑line attacker and rarely threatens the Core unless enemy naval units can path extremely close to shore. It shines when kept among allied naval forces: its flamethrower will repair and buff nearby friendly units and structures (its status field — an
Overclock effect — was added in later builds and lasts roughly 6 seconds), while its point defense helps cancel incoming ordnance. However, the point defense can also shoot down some long‑range shots targeting the
Oxynoe, so pairing it with long‑range friendly turrets requires care because certain projectile types can be intercepted.
Tactical notes and interactions:
Oxynoe has very high DPS for a Tier 2 marine unit on
Serpulo and must not be allowed to touch defensive blocks; it is most dangerous when it reaches walls or buildings.- Long‑range turrets (e.g.,
Ripple) can engage it at distance, though their projectiles may be intercepted by
Oxynoe’s point defense. Weapons that bypass point defense (Lancer,
Fuse) or fast high‑damage units (Foreshadow,
Meltdown,
Spectre) are effective counters.
Oxynoe often appears alongside larger naval attackers (Omura,
Sei) and can buff them; when present in numbers this
Overclock effect can make the larger units much more lethal for several seconds after activation.- When using Oxynoes offensively, alternate production between offensive and support naval units by placing two Naval Factories. Without logic micro, Oxynoes can run ahead of slower capital units; simple manual micro (ordering movement and keeping Oxynoes near the group) or Logic Processors can maintain the buff uptime.
- Reflected flames (by
Phase Wall,
Phase Wall Large,
Shielded Wall) will immediately heal the damaged block, effectively nullifying
Oxynoe’s damage when reflection occurs.
Oxynoe is not immune to the
Burning status despite using a flame weapon.
Historical and balance notes: the unit was added in an early build and has seen several adjustments — range and point‑defense damage were changed across updates, a Status Field (Overclock) was added, item capacity decreased, and a command limit was once removed. These patch changes account for variations found in older guides and descriptions.
