Mushroom

Overview

Mushroom is the food product grown by the Dusk Cap plant and used as a raw ingredient in multiple cooking and morale recipes. It appears as a produced crop in a Carbon Dioxide environment and is primarily obtained by planting and harvesting Dusk Caps. Mushrooms serve as a basic eatable that can be cooked into higher-value meals and processed in the Juicer to grant morale and strength bonuses.

Dusk Caps require Slime and a Carbon Dioxide atmosphere to produce Mushrooms. Production rates and inputs are fixed: producing 1000 kcal of Mushrooms takes 3.125 cycles (320 kcal per cycle) and consumes 12.5 kg of Slime; the 1000 kcal batch weighs 0.416 kg in-game. A single full Mushroom unit (2400 kcal entry in some displays) is represented with a mass of 1000 g in inventory mass terms. If Mushrooms are used as the sole food source, a duplicant consumes 5/12 Mushrooms per cycle (about 3.125 Dusk Caps), corresponding to 12.5 kg Slime per duplicant per cycle.

Mushrooms are usable in several food-production buildings and recipes. They can be cooked on the Electric Grill into Fried Mushroom, and combined with Lettuce on the Gas Range to make a Mushroom Wrap. Placing Mushrooms into the Juicer produces beverages that improve duplicant morale and increase the strength attribute.

Practical notes and interactions:

  • Automating mushroom harvest and delivery is straightforward; Auto-Sweepers can fully automate collection and transport from Dusk Cap planters.
  • Keep Dusk Caps in a Carbon Dioxide environment and ensure a steady supply of Slime to maintain consistent Mushroom production.
  • Mass and production figures are useful when planning food supply: 12.5 kg Slime → 1000 kcal Mushroom every 3.125 cycles.
  • Mushrooms are an efficient early-to-mid game food source when space and CO2 conditions allow, and they integrate well into Juicer and Electric Grill workflows for morale and nutrition upgrades.
  • Because Dusk Caps require CO2, they are typically grown in low-oxygen or CO2-rich chambers; plan atmosphere management accordingly to avoid exposing plants to unsuitable gases.
