Dried Curried Beans

Overview

Dried Curried Beans are a preserved food item processed and consumed in Oxygen Not Included. They serve as a dehydrated, long-term storage form of Curried Beans that can be compactly produced, transported, and rehydrated back into edible Curried Beans when water is available.

Dried Curried Beans are produced in a Dehydrator using Curried Beans and plastic. The standard recipe converts 6000 kcal of Curried Beans plus 12 kg Plastic into 6 units of Dried Curried Beans and yields 6 kg Water as a byproduct. Each unit of Dried Curried Beans can later be rehydrated in a Rehydrator by combining 1 unit Dried Curried Beans with 1 kg Water to produce one serving of rehydrated Curried Beans suitable for duplicant consumption.

Dried Curried Beans are useful for staging food supplies for long expeditions, space transfers, or stockpiling in environments where spoilage is a concern. They are produced and handled like other dried rations and appear in the same contexts as other preserved foods.

Practical notes:

  • Production requires Plastic as the dehydrator filler material; plan plastic supply accordingly when converting large amounts of food.
  • Dehydration returns a small amount of water; this water can be collected for use or recombined with rations during rehydration.
  • Rehydration consumes water on a one-to-one mass basis (1 kg water per dried unit), so maintain an available water source near Rehydrators to feed duplicants.
  • Because Dried Curried Beans are a transformed form of Curried Beans, their caloric content is preserved through the dehydration/re-hydration cycle according to the recipes above; count produced units when planning meal schedules or rationing.
  • Dried foods are appropriate for transfer into harsh biomes or for storage in remote outposts such as Space, Radioactive, Tundra, Forest, Rust, and Wasteland biomes.
