Overview

Wood is a raw plant-derived building material and fuel source used for several mid- and late-game industries. It is consumed directly by some buildings, can replace mineral materials in a few construction recipes, and can also be burned or processed into other resources. Because it has both construction and refinery uses, Wood often serves as a bridge between early renewable biomass and more specialized industrial products.

Wood can be used to construct certain buildings instead of mineral-based materials, including the Ladder, Cot, Outhouse, and Drywall. The listed construction costs are:

  • Ladder: 200 kg
  • Cot: 100 kg
  • Outhouse: 200 kg + 200 kg
  • Drywall: 400 kg
  • Sauna Bath: 50 kg
  • Hot Tub: 400 kg
  • A further 100 kg recipe is also listed among the construction uses in the sources, but no building name is given there.

It is also a fuel and processing input. The Wood Heater burns Wood for power, consuming 1.2 kg/s to produce 300 W and 170 g/s Carbon Dioxide. This makes Wood a convenient combustible resource when solid fuel is available in abundance, though it is not especially power-dense compared with more advanced fuels.

The Ethanol Distiller converts Wood into Ethanol and byproducts. Its conversion rate is 1 kg/s Wood into 500 g/s Ethanol, 333.33 g/s Polluted Dirt, and 166.67 g/s Carbon Dioxide. This makes Wood an important feedstock for Ethanol production chains, with the solid waste left over as Polluted Dirt rather than being fully consumed.

Wood is also used in some food-processing and coolant-related applications. The sources note that it can be processed in the Ice Liquefier, with an input range of 1.16 to 15.28 kg plus 100 kg producing 0.16 to 2.17 kg plus 100 kg. Another source also states that Wood can be used in food preparation at a rate of 100 kg per operation, though no specific station is named there.

In practice, Wood is valuable because it is multifunctional: it can support base construction, provide early industrial fuel, and feed Ethanol production. When deciding how to spend it, it is often worth reserving enough for important construction projects before committing large amounts to power generation or distillation.
