Overview

The Wood Pile is a one-time starting storage building that holds only Wood. It functions like a Storage Bin in practice, but it is much more limited: it cannot be set to Sweep Only, and it cannot be configured to store anything except Wood. Because a Storage Bin can do the same job with a smaller footprint and far more flexibility, the Wood Pile is not useful as a long-term storage solution.

Its main purpose is to provide an early supply of Wood at the beginning of a colony, helping smooth over the opening stretch before more reliable wood production is available. It also serves as a decorative, preset structure rather than a standard player-made storage option. Unlike normal buildings, no additional Wood Piles can be constructed, and if the starting one is deconstructed, it cannot be rebuilt.

Practical notes:

  • Use it as a temporary source of Wood during the early game, not as your main storage method.
  • Replace it with a Storage Bin once you can spare the materials and footprint.
  • Since it only stores Wood, it does not help organize other debris or materials.
  • Its limited one-time nature means the starting instance is important; deconstructing it permanently removes that free early reserve.
