Overview

Bog Bucket is a food plant that grows in 6.6 cycles and yields 1840 kcal of Bog Jelly per harvest. The crop can be eaten raw, where it counts as Terrible Food Quality, or processed into Swampy Delights without consuming any additional resources. A single serving of Swampy Delights uses 1840 kcal of Bog Jelly and produces 2240 kcal of food.

Bog Bucket is unusual among food plants because it consumes Polluted Water and can be grown in a Planter Box instead of a Hydroponic Farm. This makes it especially useful as an early-game sink for bottled polluted water, including the polluted water created by Wash Basins and Algae Terrariums. Because it uses liquid as a farming input, it can be convenient in bases that have more polluted water than clean water infrastructure.

For calorie planning, Bog Bucket is reasonably efficient for a plant-based crop. One Duplicant needs about 3.6 Bog Buckets’ worth of raw harvest to feed themselves, while cooked Swampy Delights reduce that requirement to 2.95 Bog Buckets. For a crew of 8 Duplicants, that works out to about 29 Bog Buckets if eaten raw, or 24 if converted into Swampy Delights. In polluted-water terms, that corresponds to roughly 1160 kg per cycle for raw use or 960 kg per cycle when cooked.

A few practical notes make the crop more attractive than its raw quality suggests:

  • Bog Bucket is the only food plant that consumes Polluted Water and can be grown in a Planter Box.
  • It is a good early sink for surplus polluted water, especially bottled output from sanitation chains.
  • Its harvest can be used directly or upgraded into Swampy Delights with no extra resource cost.
  • Like other foods, if contaminated ingredients are used in processing, Food Poisoning transfers to the product.

Bog Bucket also has a small germ-related benefit when used as food: it increases germ resistance by +1 for 2 cycles, even though the UI indicates that it must be taken daily. This makes it a modest support food in situations where germ control matters, though its main value remains as an accessible polluted-water crop and a stepping stone to a better meal through cooking.
