Carved Lumen Quartz

Overview
Carved Lumen Quartz is a portable light source and decorative craft item. It can be treated as an artifact: like other artifacts, it cannot be stored in any building, so it cannot be assigned to sweep tasks or collected by an Auto-Sweeper. Duplicants must carry it by hand. When left on the ground, it still provides positive Decor, and when placed on a
On a Pedestal, Carved Lumen Quartz provides +20 Decor within a 5-tile radius, not counting the Pedestal’s own Decor. It also keeps its original light intensity and the extra Decor granted by illumination. Because of this, it can serve as both a practical light and a room aesthetic improvement at the same time.
Its light can be used to speed up Duplicant work, improve room Decor to raise Morale, provide the light crops need to grow, and even support solar power generation. However, it does not count as a required room light source for room definitions. This makes it useful for day-to-day utility, but not as a substitute for dedicated room lighting when room rules matter.
Carved Lumen Quartz has several advantages that make it especially useful as a portable lamp:
- It does not consume power.
- It does not produce heat.
- It does not emit radiation.
- It does not take up space in the usual building sense.
- It can be carried around and repositioned as needed.
Multiple Carved Lumen Quartz can be placed in the same tile to further increase both light and Decor bonuses, making them effective for stacking illumination in compact builds. Compared with Shine Bugs, Carved Lumen Quartz does not move on its own, which can make room planning and layout control much easier.
Its main drawback is that it is non-renewable, so each one is a finite resource. As a result, it is best used where its mobility and combined light-and-Decor benefits matter most, rather than being wasted in low-value placements.
