Overview

Dasha Saltvine is a farmable plant that grows in Chlorine atmosphere and is primarily used as a Chlorine sink. It can be planted on a downward-facing Farm Tile or in a Hydroponic Farm, and unlike many crops it does not need any water, so Hydroponics are not required for its cultivation. A domestic Dasha Saltvine matures in 6 cycles, while a wild one takes 24 cycles to mature.

To grow, it requires a temperature between -25 °C and 50 °C, an atmosphere with 25 g to 10 kg of pressure, and consumes 6 g/s of Chlorine. It also must be fertilized with 7 kg/cycle of Sand. Because of that sand cost, the plant effectively converts Chlorine into Salt, with the harvested Salt often being crushed further if more Sand is needed.

Dasha Saltvine has a decor value of -10 in a 2-tile radius, so large farms can create a noticeable decor penalty if placed in living areas. It is usually best to isolate it with industrial equipment or chlorine infrastructure rather than put it near morale-critical rooms.

Practical uses include:

  • Cleaning up Chlorine from Rust Deoxidizers; one continuously operating Rust Deoxidizer provides exactly enough Chlorine for 5 Dasha Saltvines.
  • Consuming the output of a Chlorine Gas Vent; a typical vent can support about 16 to 20 Dasha Saltvines, though the gas often needs slight cooling to avoid stifling the plants.
  • Producing a net surplus of Sand when the harvested Salt is refined into Table Salt and Sand through a Rock Crusher, yielding about 3.83 kg/cycle of Sand.
  • Supplying Salt for Rust Deoxidizers directly; if Salt is only crushed when Sand is needed, the same setup can instead act as a Salt production line, with 40 Dasha Saltvines supporting one Rust Deoxidizer’s Salt demand in this way.

The plant’s name appears to be a reference to the phrase “dash of salt,” similar to the naming style of Pincha Pepper.
