Salt is an element found naturally in the Tide Pool Biome and Rust Biome, and it can also be obtained from several production chains. Dasha Saltvine produces harvestable Salt by consuming Chlorine Gas and Sand. The Desalinator can separate Salt from Salt Water or Brine, and heating those liquids past their vaporization point also leaves Salt behind as a solid residue.
5 kg/s Salt Water produces 4650 g/s Water and 350 g/s Salt.
5 kg/s Brine produces 3500 g/s Water and 1500 g/s Salt.
Heating Salt Water to 101.69 °C produces Steam at 93% mass and Salt at 7% mass.
Heating Brine to 104.75 °C produces Steam at 70% mass and Salt at 30% mass.
Salt can also be harvested on rocket missions at renewable Space POIs, especially in Interstellar Oceans, at a rate of 37.5–125 kg per cycle.
Salt has several useful industrial applications. The Rust Deoxidizer consumes Rust and Salt to generate Oxygen, Chlorine Gas, and Iron Ore at a fixed ratio of 750 g/s Rust + 250 g/s Salt = 570 g/s Oxygen + 30 g/s Chlorine Gas + 400 g/s Iron Ore. In the Rock Crusher, Salt can be refined into Table Salt, though the process is extremely wasteful in mass: 100 kg Salt becomes 5 g Table Salt and 100 kg Sand.
Salt is also used for infrastructure and resource conversion. A Geotuner consumes Salt at an average rate of 83.3 g/s per unit to boost geysers, increasing Polluted Oxygen or Chlorine output, and the Bleach Stone Hopper combines Salt with Gold to produce Bleach Stone and Sand at a ratio of 30 kg Salt + 500 g Gold = 10 kg Bleach Stone + 20 kg Sand. Salt can additionally be mixed with Water in an Emulsifier to produce Salt Water, using 93 kg Water and 7 kg Salt to make 100 kg Salt Water.
Because liquid and gaseous forms of Salt-bearing materials have different specific heat capacities, repeatedly boiling and condensing Molten Salt can be used as a heat multiplication method.
