walkthrough

TBH: Task Bar Hero is a tiered, party-based roguelite where act progression, class choices, and offline mechanics determine how quickly you advance. This walkthrough gives a compact, practical route and decision guide to get you through Acts 1–3 efficiently while avoiding common soft-locks.

Core concepts that shape progression

  • Acts are the primary gates: there are three Acts, each split into Normal, Hard, and higher tiers. You must complete Normal tier content within an Act before moving on or you will encounter steep difficulty spikes and progression walls.
  • Rune Tree is the long-term progression engine. It unlocks party size, automation, inventory, and offline rewards in addition to stat boosts; prioritize Rune Tree unlocks that increase roster slots and offline gains early.
  • Offline vs Active matters: closing the game (shutting it down) is not the same as minimizing. Whether the game is running in the background or fully closed affects offline reward accrual and progression speed; manage sessions accordingly to maximize passive gains without stalling active play.

Follow this staged focus to balance learning, resource farming, and gearing for later Acts.

  • Act 1 Normal — Learn classes, fill rare slots

    • Goal: experiment with core classes to understand their roles (damage, support, utility).
    • Fill your rare equipment/skill slots with versatile choices rather than niche counters.
    • Complete Normal tier fully before pushing Hard.
  • Act 1 Hard+ — Farm synthesis materials

    • Goal: grind Hard-tier encounters to accumulate synthesis materials used for crafting/upgrading gear and runes.
    • Prioritize encounters that drop materials for your primary party composition.
    • Use Rune Tree unlocks that boost offline rewards to accelerate material accumulation between runs.
  • Act 2 — Elemental counters vs spirits/generals

    • Goal: shift from generic builds to countering enemy archetypes. Many Act 2 foes require elemental or mechanic-specific counters (e.g., spirits or generals).
    • Adjust party composition and cube/min-maxing to exploit those counters; keep flex slots for situational gear.
  • Act 3 — Cube min-max, DLC classes optional

    • Goal: maximum optimization of cubes, runes, and party synergies to clear top-tier content.
    • DLC classes are optional; only incorporate them if their mechanics fit your optimized cube/min-max plans.
    • Focus on late-game synthesis and Rune Tree investments that boost cube efficiency and party automation.

Party composition and class choices

  • Early game (Act 1 Normal): favor broad, reliable classes that teach mechanics and survive varied encounters.
  • Mid game (Act 1 Hard → Act 2): shift toward specialized counters; include at least one support/utility to sustain runs while farming materials.
  • Late game (Act 3): assemble a highly synergistic party that complements cube min-max strategies. Use Rune Tree to expand party size before investing heavily in single-character items.

Rune Tree priorities

  • Early: unlock party size and offline reward boosts to increase active run flexibility and passive gains.
  • Mid: unlock inventory/automation slots to streamline material usage and synthesis.
  • Late: unlock high-tier stat nodes that improve cube efficiency and endgame clears.

Farming and synthesis

  • Use Act 1 Hard and Act 2 farming runs to collect synthesis materials needed for gear upgrades and rune crafting.
  • Optimize runs by targeting encounters that drop the specific materials your build requires.
  • Leverage Rune Tree offline gains to supplement active farming; close vs minimize behavior affects how much passive progression you receive—manage sessions to benefit from that.

Avoiding progression traps

  • Do not skip Normal tiers across an Act. Skipping Normal will result in severe difficulty spikes and make subsequent tiers much harder to clear.
  • Don’t delay unlocking party size: a small roster limits tactical options and forces repeated costly re-rolls of equipment.
  • Don’t overcommit to DLC classes early—use them only if they clearly improve your Act 3 min-max plan.

Practical session tips

  • Early sessions: play actively to learn classes and secure rare slots.
  • Mid sessions: alternate focused farming runs with Rune Tree upgrades; increase offline rewards before logging off extended periods.
  • Late sessions: run optimized parties for cube min-maxing; use automation to reduce tedious repetitive actions.

Summary checklist

  • Complete each Act’s Normal tier before pushing Hard.
  • Prioritize Rune Tree nodes that grant party size, offline rewards, and inventory/automation.
  • Follow the recommended route: learn → farm materials → counter enemies → min-max cubes.
  • Use DLC classes only when they fit your late-game optimization.
  • Manage game closing vs minimizing to get intended offline gains.

This route balances immediate survivability, material acquisition, and long-term growth so you can progress through Acts 1–3 without hitting avoidable walls.
