Mouth Breather
Overview
Mouth Breather is a Duplicant trait that causes the Duplicant to consume noticeably more oxygen than the average Duplicant. The trait increases that Duplicant's personal oxygen throughput during normal activities, meaning they require a larger share of the colony's available oxygen supply.
Because a Mouth Breather uses more oxygen, they place extra demand on your colony's life-support systems and can accelerate oxygen depletion in confined or poorly ventilated areas. This makes them more likely to contribute to low-oxygen situations if colony oxygen generation and distribution are not scaled accordingly.
- Keep Mouth Breathers in areas with reliable oxygen production and good airflow so their higher consumption does not create local shortages.
- Monitor oxygen meters and gas overlays around their work and living spaces to catch drops in O2 before they affect other Duplicants.
- Compensate for their increased usage by expanding oxygen production, storage, or circulation capacity, or by reducing overall colony oxygen demand through operational adjustments.
- Consider task assignment and scheduling to avoid concentrating multiple high-oxygen consumers in the same enclosed region during critical operations.
The trait is strictly a modifier of oxygen consumption. It does not change other Duplicant stats or behaviors beyond increasing how much oxygen that individual uses.
