Critter Aversion
Overview
Critter Aversion is a duplicant personality trait that describes a strong mistrust or discomfort around critters. The trait is purely descriptive and communicates that the duplicant reacts negatively to small, beady-eyed creatures. The in-game flavor text across many localizations emphasizes the same idea: the duplicant "just doesn't trust those beady little eyes" (English), and equivalent lines appear in Korean, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, German, Spanish, Italian, French, Portuguese (Brazil), and Polish translations.
This trait functions as a character-flavor marker. Duplicants with Critter Aversion show an aversion toward critters in their behavior and role suitability from a role-playing or colony-management perspective. The trait informs player expectations about which duplicants are likely to be comfortable working with or around critters.
- Avoid assigning duplicants with Critter Aversion to critter-focused tasks if you want to maintain colony morale and efficiency. Typical critter-related duties include capturing, feeding, breeding, and transporting critters.
- Prefer to station these duplicants in roles that minimize direct contact with critters, such as research, manual labor away from pastures, or base maintenance.
- When placing critter pens, food sources, or grazing areas, consider locating them away from living and working spaces used primarily by duplicants who possess this trait to reduce potential stress or dissatisfaction.
- Use duplicant selection and job assignment to balance your workforce so that critter care falls to duplicants without this aversion.
The trait is mainly a flavor and assignment consideration rather than a unique gameplay mechanic on its own. It communicates personal preference and helps players make practical decisions about task allocation and base layout to keep duplicants comfortable and productive.
