Overview

Trypophobia is a Duplicant trait that manifests as an intense fear of holes or clusters of small cavities. A Duplicant with Trypophobia is unable to perform digging or mining tasks. The fear prevents them from interacting with the game actions classed under digging, making excavation jobs impossible for that individual.

Trypophobia applies specifically to digging activities and does not by itself remove other job capabilities. Duplicants with this trait can still haul, build, research, cook, operate machines, and perform any other tasks that do not require them to perform digging actions. The trait does not imply additional behavioral quirks beyond the inability to dig, and it does not automatically cause them to refuse other work types.

  • Assign Duplicants with Trypophobia to roles that avoid excavation, such as research, cooking, medicine, power generation, or plant tending. Keep their job priorities away from mining to prevent idle time.
  • Use other Duplicants to handle all digging and tunneling tasks. Plan mine and excavation schedules with available diggers in mind to avoid bottlenecks.
  • When expanding base layout, prioritize pre-planned corridors and rooms so that mining can be handled by designated Duplicants rather than expecting Trypophobic Duplicants to participate.
  • Trypophobia does not prevent a Duplicant from entering existing caverns or rooms once excavation is complete, provided the task does not require active digging. They will function normally in finished spaces.
  • Duplicants with Trypophobia do not need to be isolated or removed from your colony unless their other skills are undesirable; simply avoid assigning mining priorities to them.

Trypophobia is a straightforward trait that directly affects only digging capability. Managing it requires only modest adjustments to task assignments and colony planning to ensure excavation work is covered by other Duplicants.
