Overview

The Refrigerator is a large, stationary container item that appears in kitchens and service areas across the game world. It functions as a powered cooler: when connected to an electrical outlet it will continuously keep its contents cold, preserving perishable items. The unit is built with modest resistance to radiation and features an unusually heavy base that makes it difficult to move once placed.

Refrigerators spawn in a wide variety of indoor locations and are often placed where food and staff supplies are stored or prepared. Notable spawn points include the Flathill Syrup Company building kitchen (the structure across the bridge from the Library); multiple rooms within Manufacturing West (Shipping area kitchens and the Shipping supply room near a computer and Television); several rooms inside Cascade Laboratories (containment-area rooms near the Containment Robot and kitchens in the Control Center near the keypad and file cabinet areas); the Furniture Store first floor (three different color variants: white, red and blue); and service areas in reactor facilities (Power Services building with a fireplace, Dusk Reactor small kitchens near second-level offices, and Gale Reactor large rooms with vending machines and a kitchen). These placements make Refrigerators common loot in workplace and industrial interiors.

Practical usage and interaction notes:

  • Power requirement: A Refrigerator must be plugged into a nearby outlet or powered circuit to perform active cooling. When unpowered it functions only as a storage container and does not preserve perishables.
  • Item preservation: Active Refrigerators continuously cool and thus prevent food spoilage and can be used to store temperature-sensitive supplies. This makes them valuable in bases or during extended operations where food longevity matters.
  • Mobility: The base is exceptionally heavy; Refrigerators are cumbersome to move and typically treated as effectively static fixtures once arranged. Plan placement carefully if you intend to use one for base storage.
  • Survivability: The unit provides some protection against radiation for stored contents, making it preferable to ordinary containers in irradiated areas.
  • Visual variants: In non-service settings such as the Furniture Store, Refrigerators appear in multiple color variants (white, red, blue), which are otherwise functionally identical.
  • Tactical placement: Because Refrigerators commonly appear near key infrastructure (keypads, Containment Robot rooms, shipping and supply rooms, reactor maintenance areas), checking kitchens and small break rooms is an efficient way to locate one when you need powered storage.
  • Quantity and distribution: Multiple Refrigerators can be found across reactor complexes and large facilities; some areas (e.g., Furniture Store first floor) may contain several in close proximity.

The Refrigerator is a reliable, durable option for preserving items when access to power exists, and its frequent placement in staff and industrial zones makes it a predictable resource during exploration.
