Runic Crate

A Runic Crate is a sealed container bound by mysticism and heavy metal that appears across the facility. It requires a GATE Defense Rune to unlock; once opened it yields a mix of rare materials and equipment and can be repackaged for reuse as a storage container. The crate's appearance and flavor are described in-game as being enveloped and sealed by mystical forces and dense metalwork.

Unlocking a Runic Crate always grants a Defunct Shield Generator and a set of arcane and lodestone components useful for late-game repairs and crafting. Typical contents include Arcane Scrap, Lodestone Fragments, Imbued Parchment, repair kits for light and intermediate guns, and occasionally collectible curios like Human Skull or whole Lodestone. After being unlocked the crate can be packaged and used as a portable storage crate that offers the same inventory capacity as a Storage Crate (Large) and the same radiation shielding as a Hazard Crate.

Runic Crates are placed in multiple areas of the game world, often tucked into less obvious locations that require careful searching. Known spawn points include floating platforms near vegetation past the blue archway in The Encroachment, and numerous locations within reactor areas: in Power Services sewers, beside apartment hydropipes, behind the Unlost Camp, inside the Dusk Reactor atrium beyond the glass door marked with a blue hand, past the Cloud Reactor tram blast doors, near the Mist Reactor doorway in flora, behind the bot charging pod in the Mist Reactor pool room, and inside a small room adjacent to the curved glass doors that require a Keypad Hackerman (Tier 5). One Power Services sewer entry specifically requires Antethermite to access.

• Common stacked drops: Arcane Scrap, Lodestone Fragment, and Light Gun Repair Kits commonly appear in stacks; some entries list base guaranteed counts with a 50% chance to increase quantities (e.g., Arcane Scrap and Lodestone Fragment often appear as 4 guaranteed, with a 50% chance for higher counts).
