Overview
Stell is a tier-1 combat unit that serves as a straightforward, high-damage frontline attacker. It is designed to be produced in quantity from fabricators to overwhelm defenses and enemy units rather than to act as a solo skirmisher. Stells appear in early-game compositions and are most effective when used en masse to punch through turrets, supply lines, and weak bases; their high raw damage and heavy armor let them trade favorably against many other tier-1 units and early turrets.
The
Stell’s primary weapon fires at 1.2 shots per second (0.83 s reload, 50 ticks) with a rotation speed of 2.2°/tick. Its projectile is a BasicBulletType that deals 30 damage, travels at 30 tiles/second, and has a lifespan of 0.66 seconds (40 ticks), giving an effective range around 20 tiles (range was adjusted in later builds to 19.5). The unit itself has 6 armor and 850 health, allowing it to soak turret fire long enough for other allied tier-1 units to disable defenses.
Practical use and tactics:
- Mass production is the
Stell’s strength. Use multiple fabricators to flood the battlefield; individual Stells are slow and poorly suited to micro-heavy play but win through numbers and durability. - Stells are effective at taking down turrets and cutting supply lines; prioritize disabling turret supply over single-shot kills when attacking a fortified base.
- Against enemy units, Stells match well versus other Stells and most tier-1 units because their armor reduces incoming damage significantly (for example, light melee/low-penetration weapons are heavily mitigated).
- Walls delay a
Stell swarm effectively; use walls to stall and channel them, or place Blast Doors so friendly Stells can traverse your defenses without getting stuck. - Early defenses such as Breaches can handle Stells if the attackers are restrained by walls; if you can afford to turtle and build Breaches, they provide reliable defense.
- Stells are outclassed once tier-2 and larger units (Titan,
Afflict) enter play; transition to higher-tier attackers once tungsten and advanced resources are available.
Development notes:
Stell was added in Build 136.- Range was slightly increased in Build 147 (to 19.5). No changes were made to bullet speed or lifespan in that update.
