Skills Board

Overview

The Skills Board is a building that grants Duplicants access to special skills they cannot acquire through ordinary experience or research. It functions as an external teaching device: when a Duplicant interacts with the Skills Board, they gain access to particular abilities that are otherwise unavailable to them by normal progression. This makes the Skills Board the definitive method for introducing those unique skills into a colony.

Skills Boards are intended specifically for Duplicants; they do not grant passive or system-wide effects on the colony independent of who trains on them. Because the Skills Board supplies skills that duplicants "cannot learn on their own," it is used when a colony requires capabilities beyond what duplicants will develop naturally through job assignments, practice, or research. The presence of a Skills Board expands the set of possible roles and behaviors by providing targeted skill acquisition.

Practical notes and usage considerations:

  • Install a Skills Board when you need a skill that is described as unavailable through ordinary duplication or job experience; it is the mechanism for teaching those exceptional skills.
  • Only Duplicants can be taught by the Skills Board; its purpose is to modify Duplicant abilities rather than to change building behavior directly.
  • Because the Skills Board supplies otherwise-unobtainable skills, consider placing it where duplicants can access it during non-critical work periods so training does not unduly interfere with essential tasks.

The Skills Board is a focused solution for expanding duplicant capabilities in situations where normal learning paths are insufficient. Use it as a targeted tool to unlock specialized roles that benefit colony development and problem solving.
