An assortment of wild summer seeds.

Overview

Summer Seeds are a crafted seed item that can be planted during summer to grow one of the season’s forage crops. Despite the crafting recipe being labeled Wild Seeds (Su), the crafted item is Summer Seeds. When mature, the crop has an equal chance to produce a Grape, Spice Berry, or Sweet Pea.

Like the other season-specific wild seeds, Summer Seeds grow into crops that are normally found as forage rather than standard farm produce. They are part of the set that also includes Spring Seeds, Fall Seeds, and Winter Seeds. Summer Seeds are especially notable because their crop quality is affected by the Foraging skill rather than the Farming skill. The Botanist profession guarantees iridium-quality harvests from Summer Seeds, making them a strong option for players who want high-value forage crops.

Summer Seeds can be obtained in several ways:

  • Crafted in batches of 10.
  • Placed from a Spice Berry in a Seed Maker, which can yield 1–3 Summer Seeds.
  • Received as a reward from an unspecified quest or bundle reward in the source material.
  • Sold by the Traveling Cart.
  • Traded with the Desert Trader on Saturdays for 2 Fall Seeds.
  • Found in treasure rooms in Skull Cavern, in quantities of 5–20.

The growth cycle takes 7 days total, split into 3 days for the first stage and 4 days for the second stage before harvest. Because the crop is not attacked by crows, Scarecrows are unnecessary when planting Summer Seeds. During Stage 2, the plants may look similar to dead crops, which can make them easy to mistake for failed growth if you are not paying close attention.

Summer Seeds can be a profitable crafting item. A single craft produces 10 seeds, and the finished seeds are worth more than the ingredients used to make them, especially if the ingredients would otherwise be sold directly with the Tiller profession bonus applied. This makes them useful both as a seasonal crop and as a way to convert forage into higher-value goods.

One notable bug affects Summer Seeds on Ginger Island: when mature plants are harvested, they may destroy the tilled soil and any fertilizer, leaving untilled soil behind.
