Winter Seeds

Winter Seeds are a type of seed that can be crafted, obtained from several winter-related sources, and planted outdoors during Winter to grow a mixed forage crop. When harvested, each seed has an equal chance of producing one of the four winter forage items: Snow Yam, Crystal Fruit, Crocus, or Winter Root. They take 7 days total to mature, with 3 days in the first stage and 4 days in the second.

Winter Seeds can be obtained in a variety of ways. They are crafted in batches of 10 each, and a Winter Root placed in a Seed Maker produces 1–3 Winter Seeds. They are also a reward for completing the Winter Foraging Bundle, which grants 30 Winter Seeds. Other sources include the Traveling Cart, the Desert Trader on Saturdays in exchange for 2 Spring Seeds, treasure rooms in the Skull Cavern, and SquidFest, where they can be awarded as silver-tier prizes: a 50% chance to receive 10 Winter Seeds on the 12th and a 50% chance to receive 15 Winter Seeds on the 13th.

Because Winter Seeds are based on forage crops rather than standard vegetables, they are useful for building up winter forage supply and for obtaining the specific winter forage items needed for crafting and other winter goals. Their harvest is random among the four possible crops, so the output can vary widely from batch to batch. If you are trying to stockpile a specific forage item, planting multiple seed batches is the most reliable approach.

A few practical notes stand out:

• Winter Seeds can be grown in Winter, making them one of the few seed types that produce a crop during the season normally reserved for forage.
• Since each crop outcome is equally likely, planting large numbers smooths out the randomness.
• Selling Winter Seeds is not profitable. Crafting them yields seeds worth more in total than the ingredients sold separately at normal quality.
• On Ginger Island, mature Winter Seeds may destroy tilled soil and fertilizer, leaving untilled soil behind after harvest.

Winter Seeds are distinct from the forage items they produce, but they are closely tied to the winter foraging loop: they help convert a single Winter Root into more winter forage potential, and they can be a convenient way to gather seasonal materials without depending entirely on wild spawns.
