The Hammer (in some localizations called Musical Hammer / 敲击器) is a small, non-consumable tool-like item represented in-game as an interactive object used to strike buildings, pipes and wires. It appears as a placeable, activatable entity that produces a short animation and sound effect each time it is used. The Hammer cannot be stored in normal storage containers when treated as a keepsake/artifact-style object in certain contexts and is made of Genetic Ooze when referenced among keepsakes/artifacts.
Using the Hammer on game objects causes a visible impact effect and an associated tuned note. Different struck objects produce different pitches: hitting Gas Pipes, Liquid Pipes or Wires will generate different notes depending on the length of the pipe or wire struck, allowing the Hammer to be used to create simple musical sequences by arranging pipe lengths. Activating the Hammer while it is off-camera can occasionally leave the visual hit effect stuck until the player moves the cursor over it; sound will not play in that stuck state and the issue corrects when the object is hovered.
The Hammer does not deal damage or alter the functional state of most targeted buildings; its primary gameplay functions are cosmetic and auditory. It is commonly encountered as a decorative/interactive keepsake or artifact item obtained through story rewards, space mission loot, or as part of map points of interest—these artifact/keepsake instances are crafted from Genetic Ooze and cannot be placed into conventional storage. Some artifacts and keepsakes that are similar in handling also emit light or provide decor bonuses, but the Hammer’s notable behavior is its striking animation and musical interaction.
Practical notes and interactions:
Hitting pipes and wires with the Hammer produces tuned notes determined by the length of the struck conduit, enabling players to deliberately lay out pipe/wire lengths to compose simple melodies.
The Hammer’s hit effect is purely visual/auditory and does not modify temperature, pressure, or material contents of the target.
Artifact or keepsake versions are not eligible for normal storage; they must be handled like other Genetic Ooze items and may be presented for decor or placed in specialty displays.
A visual bug can leave the hammer’s hit animation visible when activated off-screen; hovering the mouse over the Hammer clears the stale effect.
