Overview

Carpeted Tile is a building used to improve the Decor value of rooms. It is primarily a quality-of-life tile rather than a utility building, giving duplicants a pleasant surface to walk on while also serving as a decorative flooring option. When built with Granite, it gains an additional +20% Decor bonus, making Granite the preferred material if the goal is maximum room aesthetics.

Walking across Carpeted Tile slows duplicants by 25%, but it also grants the Tickled Tootsies effect, which reduces stress by 15% per cycle for 15 seconds. This benefit is not limited to active movement; duplicants can receive the effect even if they are not actually moving or touching the ground. For that reason, a duplicant sleeping in a Cot placed on Carpeted Tile still receives the Carpeted Tile bonus.

In practice, Carpeted Tile is most useful in living areas, bedrooms, and other spaces where stress reduction and Decor matter more than movement speed. The movement penalty makes it a poor choice for high-traffic industrial corridors, but it is well suited to recreational or residential zones where duplicants spend extended time. Because the stress reduction applies passively, it can be a simple way to improve colony comfort without requiring additional power or upkeep.

  • Best built in low-traffic rooms where duplicants stay for long periods.
  • Granite is the best construction material if the goal is to maximize Decor.
  • The 25% movement penalty makes it less suitable for busy transit routes.
  • The stress-reduction effect can still apply while a duplicant is resting in a Cot on Carpeted Tile.
