Cartographic Module

Overview

The Cartographic Module is a building that enables Duplicants to venture into areas of the map that have not yet been visited by other Duplicants. Its primary role is to facilitate exploration and expand the playable colony’s reach by opening access to unscouted tiles and regions; in practical terms it functions as an enabler for scouting and discovery rather than as a resource producer or habitat.

Because the Cartographic Module changes how and where Duplicants move, its placement and integration with the rest of a base affect how quickly and safely new areas are uncovered. It is most useful when used to deliberately extend exploration beyond the immediate base perimeter, allowing Duplicants to locate resources, points of interest, and new terrain that would otherwise remain inaccessible until conventional construction or pathing allowed access.

  • Place the module where exploration is intended to start (for example, at an edge of known terrain) so that Duplicants sent to investigate can begin from a logical staging point.
  • Combine its use with logistical planning: cleared access routes, temporary waypoints, or protection from environmental hazards will increase the effectiveness of exploration missions launched via the module.
  • Use it as part of a staged expansion strategy: reveal an area, evaluate hazards and resource opportunities, then establish infrastructure or extract resources as needed.
  • Because the module specifically enables travel into previously unvisited locations, it pairs naturally with objectives that require locating or reaching distant installations, materials, or biomes.

The Cartographic Module is conceptually focused on discovery and mobility rather than on direct automation or production. Treat it as a strategic tool that converts map fog into actionable knowledge: every new area exposed by its function can yield materials, new building sites, or tactical advantages for colony growth.
