Overview

Dynamite is a consumable explosive item found in the world, sometimes appearing on the backpacks of dead explorers or other wreckage. It is primarily used for controlled demolition and for breaking down large debris into smaller pieces that can be processed into tradeable Scrap with a Shredder. It is especially useful for dealing with Detritus and other bulky wreckage that cannot be moved or repurposed directly.

When placed, Dynamite does nothing on its own until it is triggered by hovering over it and pressing the interaction key. After a short series of beeps, it explodes. The blast is lethal to players within its radius, destroys the object it is attached to, and clears a small sphere of terrain around the detonation point. Harder terrain is more resistant, but resources inside the blast radius are harvested by the explosion. EXO Caches within range are also broken open.

Dynamite can be attached to objects without using attachment slots, which makes it easy to carry and place in quantity. It can be used to destroy modules, platforms, trees, and most other objects it is attached to, but it does not destroy the Starting Shelter. Only one object can be destroyed by a single piece of Dynamite. Putting Dynamite into a Shredder or a Smelting Furnace causes it to explode, destroying the machine as well.

Several other explosive materials interact with Dynamite in a chain reaction: Hydrogen, Methane, Sulfur, and Hydrazine will all detonate when one of them is triggered in range of the others. These chain reactions grow larger as more explosives are added, and explosions involving these materials and Dynamite produce a blue hue.

Practical uses include:

  • Breaking wreckage into smaller Debris so it can be collected and shredded into Scrap.
  • Removing Detritus, which is one of the main reasons to carry Dynamite.
  • Opening EXO Caches.
  • Clearing obstacles or attached objects that cannot be dismantled in a normal way.

Unlike real-world dynamite, it does not detonate prematurely from being thrown or dropped, so it can be transported safely as long as it is not triggered.
