Power Extender is a power-related sensor item that detects changes in the power flow to the platform it is attached to. It is used to react to power being gained or lost, making it useful for automating base systems that need to respond to changing solar or wind output, or for turning generators on when power drops at night.
The item has three selectable modes, each of which sends a signal when the chosen power state changes:
Gained or Lost: sends a signal when power is gained or lost. After it detects a gain, it must first lose power again before it can detect another gain.
Gained: sends a signal whenever power is gained.
Lost: sends a signal whenever power is lost.
Because it only reacts to state changes, Power Extender is best used as a trigger rather than a continuous monitor. It can be paired with base automation to switch systems on and off based on available power, helping conserve resources and reducing the need for manual control.
