Shower

Overview

The Shower is a basic sanitation building used by Duplicants during the Downtime and Bathtime schedule blocks. It removes the Soggy Feet and Sopping Wet debuffs and grants +3 Morale after use. Regular showering also helps prevent Duplicants from spreading germs to the things they touch.

A Shower accepts polluted or germy water without issue. The germs in the input water do not affect its function, and Duplicants are not made sick or infected by using it. The temperature of the input water also does not matter to the Duplicant, and the polluted water output keeps the same temperature as the input water. A shower cycle takes 16 seconds to complete, or 13.6 seconds with the Lit Workspace bonus, and this duration is not affected by the Duplicant’s Machinery attribute.

Showers and Sinks produce the same amount of polluted water as the clean water they consume, which makes them convenient for closed-loop bathroom setups. A common arrangement is to pipe a Shower’s output into a Water Sieve, then send the sieve’s output back into the Shower. Once started, this loop can run indefinitely without requiring additional water, provided it is properly maintained. The loop must be primed first by using a Liquid Pump to fill it with a small amount of water; after the clean-water side is full, the pump can be disconnected.

Because the Shower’s main benefit is morale rather than germ removal speed, it became much more useful after the Rocketry Upgrade, when it began providing a temporary morale bonus. Before that, Sinks were generally faster for cleaning germs, and the Shower’s other benefit was relatively minor.

Useful notes:

  • Showers do not care whether the incoming water contains germs.
  • The polluted water output matches the input water in temperature.
  • They are best used as part of a bathroom loop with a Water Sieve.
  • A Liquid Pump is only needed to start the loop; it can be removed afterward if the system stays full.
  • Regular use helps reduce germ spread from Duplicants touching shared surfaces and objects.
