Overview

Molten Gold is a passive effect that grants additional starting coins at the beginning of battles. When a run includes Molten Gold, each battle begins with an increased amount of coin_only equal to the effect value, giving the player extra currency to spend on pegs, items, or upgrades immediately when the round starts.

Molten Gold appears as an early-game economy boost and stacks with any other effects that modify starting gold. Its primary purpose is to accelerate build flexibility and allow earlier purchases or higher-risk plays that require extra initial funds. The amount granted is represented by {[ADDITIONAL_BATTLE_GOLD]} in game files; in live builds this value has changed across versions. The effect was introduced in v0.9.01 and was buffed in v1.0.6 from 5 to 10 extra starting gold.

Practical notes and interactions:

  • The bonus applies only to the battle’s starting coin_only pool and does not retroactively add gold mid-battle unless other mechanics convert starting gold into spendable currency later.
  • Molten Gold combines with other modifiers to starting wealth; if another effect sets or modifies initial coins, the total starting amount equals the base starting coins plus Molten Gold’s value.
  • Because it affects the very start of each battle, Molten Gold is most valuable for enabling expensive first-move purchases (e.g., early defensive pegs or immediate stat upgrades) and for decks or playstyles that depend on early economy spikes.
  • Consider pairing Molten Gold with items or relics that benefit from higher spending or that refund/convert spending into additional value to maximize its impact.
