Wood Workshop

A place to process woods into items. Produces tools, barrels, and gears.
Overview
Wood Workshop is a mid-game production building that turns basic materials into several important crafted goods. It is one of the key industrial buildings in a growing settlement because it provides the items that many other systems depend on, especially Tools and Cogwheels, while also producing Barrels and
Its production lines are:
- 3 Wooden Sticks → 3 Tools, in 450 work
- 3
Lumber → 2 Barrels, in 600 work
- 1 Lumber + 1
Copper Ingot → 2 Cogwheels, in 800 work
- 4 Lumber + 1 Copper Ingot → 2 Wooden Furniture, in 1400 work
Tools and Cogwheels are especially important because they are used in many places throughout the city, so Wood Workshop output often becomes a bottleneck if the building is too far from the rest of the industrial chain. Placing it in a convenient, central location is better than building it at the edge of the settlement, since repeated hauling can slow production and waste labor.
Barrels also have a practical role beyond being a crafted item on their own. They are needed for producing the

Wooden Furniture is the least attractive of the four products in most cases, and it is usually not worth prioritizing unless it can be exported at a very good price. For most settlements, the more valuable outputs are Tools, Cogwheels, and Barrels, which have broader utility and are more likely to keep production moving smoothly.
A few practical points make Wood Workshop management easier:
- Keeping at least two Wood Workshops is recommended.
- Add more as the city grows and demand for Tools and Cogwheels rises.
- Use production conditions or stock controls so the workshop does not overproduce low-priority goods.
- Because it has three genuinely useful outputs, careful inventory management matters more here than in simpler production buildings.
In practice, Wood Workshop is a flexible but management-heavy building. A well-placed one can stabilize the supply of essential parts for the whole settlement, while a poorly managed one can fill storage with items that are less useful than the materials needed to make them.
