Overview

Cogwheel is a processed material that is most often used as a construction ingredient. It does not have a wide range of uses, but the recipes that do require it include some especially useful infrastructure, so it remains a valuable mid- to late-game resource.

Its most notable applications are in Earthquaker and Lift Station construction. Cogwheels are also used for the Printing Shop, which becomes highly productive once Silk and Dye are available. After electrification, Cogwheels gain an additional role as a component for the Motor, giving them renewed importance beyond their earlier building uses.

Copper Ingot is another related material, since it is used not only for Cogwheels but also for Coin production. Because of that overlap, it is easy for Cogwheel production to compete with other Copper Ingot demands. It is usually a good idea to place limits on Cogwheel production in the Wood Workshop’s recipe details so Copper Ingot is not consumed too aggressively.

  • Cogwheels are mainly a crafting material for buildings and advanced parts.
  • Their value comes from a small number of high-impact recipes rather than broad use.
  • Earthquaker and Lift Station are the most practical early uses.
  • Printing Shop becomes especially efficient when Silk and Dye are available.
  • After electrification, they are also needed for Motor production.
  • Since Copper Ingot is shared with Coin production, controlling output helps prevent shortages.
