Fire Opal has two notable uses. It can be placed in the spool of the Sewing Machine to create a Purple Blouse, and it can also be used in dyeing as a purple dye at the dye pots in Emily's and Haley's house at 2 Willow Lane. This makes it useful for players who want to customize clothing or work through tailoring recipes that call for mineral ingredients.

Because it is tied to both geodes and tailoring, Fire Opal is worth keeping at least one copy of if you enjoy fashion items or dye options. If you are short on inventory space, it is still a mineral that is usually more valuable for its special uses than for selling immediately.
