Rotten Plant

Rotten Plant is a type of trash item. It is produced when a Jack-O-Lantern decomposes on the 1st of Winter, unless the Jack-O-Lantern has been stored in an inventory or chest. It can also be obtained under specific circumstances after reading Secret Note #19, solving the puzzle, and receiving the special reward item.

Rotten Plant has very limited practical use. It cannot be placed in a Recycling Machine, and it is not used in any bundles or recipes. Its main purpose is as a color item: it can be used in dyeing as an orange dye ingredient at the dye pots in Emily and Haley’s house at 2 Willow Lane. It is also accepted as an orange item for the Special Order Qi’s Prismatic Barn.

Because Rotten Plant is categorized as trash, it is mostly a situational byproduct rather than something players actively seek out. If a Jack-O-Lantern is being saved for display or storage, it will avoid decomposing on Winter 1; otherwise, it will turn into Rotten Plant. That makes it one of the few seasonal trash items tied to holiday décor, and its appearance is usually more of a nuisance than a reward. Still, it can be worth keeping a copy on hand if you want an easy orange dye source or need to fulfill the orange-item requirement for the Special Order.
