Overview

The Strange Doll is an Artifact that can be found in several ways throughout Stardew Valley. It may appear when digging up an Artifact Spot on The Farm, in the Bus Stop, Pelican Town, The Beach, Cindersap Forest, or The Mountain. It can also be found in Fishing Treasure Chests after reaching Fishing level 2. In rare cases, it may be obtained by tilling soil in The Mines or Skull Cavern. One Strange Doll, the yellow variant, is always received after solving the secret in Secret Note #18.

Like other Artifacts, the Strange Doll counts toward the Museum collection when donated to Gunther. Its sell price is 1000g, making it more valuable than most basic forageable finds, though it has a stronger use as a collection item than as a source of profit.

The Strange Doll (yellow) also has a practical use in crafting and dyeing. It can be placed in the spool of the Sewing Machine to make the Bobo Shirt. It can also be used as a yellow dye ingredient at the dye pots in Emily’s and Haley’s house at 2 Willow Lane. It is not used in any quests.

A few details make the item notable beyond its normal artifact role:

  • It is one of the artifacts tied to multiple discovery methods, including digging, fishing, and rare tilling drops.
  • The yellow version is guaranteed from Secret Note #18, making that note a reliable source for at least one copy.
  • Both Strange Dolls resemble characters from Wumbus World, a webcomic series created by ConcernedApe in 2011.

Because it serves as both a Museum donation and a tailoring/dyeing material, the Strange Doll is worth keeping at least one copy of if the player wants to complete clothing recipes or preserve a set of artifacts.
