Carbon Skimmer

Overview

The Carbon Skimmer is a building used to remove large amounts of carbon dioxide from the air. It is useful for clearing out CO2-heavy areas, especially low-lying spaces where carbon dioxide tends to accumulate.

Unlike an oxygen-producing device, the Carbon Skimmer does not create breathable air. It only removes carbon dioxide, so it should be paired with some other system for supplying oxygen if the goal is to support duplicants in the same area. In practice, it is best used as part of a larger atmospheric management setup rather than as a standalone life-support solution.

  • It is effective at reducing carbon dioxide buildup in enclosed or poorly ventilated areas.
  • It does not replace oxygen generation, since it produces no breathable gas.
  • Because it only removes CO2, it is most valuable where carbon dioxide is becoming a problem faster than it can naturally disperse.
  • It works as a cleanup tool, not as a source of air for duplicants.
