Materials Study Terminal

Overview

The Materials Study Terminal is a research building that consumes Radbolts from the Radbolt Generator to produce Applied Science Research. It stores up to 100 Radbolts, and each 10 Radbolts are converted into 1 Applied Science Research point. The Radbolts are received from the very left, second-from-bottom tile of the building, and any excess beyond storage capacity is immediately fired onward in the same direction they entered.

Because overflow Radbolts are forwarded instead of destroyed, the terminal can be chained with additional terminals to reduce waste or redirect excess energy for other uses. This also means care is needed around the firing line, since forwarded Radbolts can injure a Duplicant working at the terminal. Its research rate appears to match the other research stations, and as a Science Building it receives a +10% efficiency bonus when placed inside a Laboratory.

A few practical points make the building easier to use effectively:

  • Keep the Radbolt Generator and the terminal aligned so Radbolts enter the correct tile cleanly.
  • If you are generating more Radbolts than one terminal can hold, place multiple terminals in sequence to catch overflow rather than letting it go to waste.
  • Do not position a working Duplicant where forwarded Radbolts can hit them.
  • Place the terminal in a Laboratory whenever possible for the efficiency bonus.
  • Since the building itself stores only 100 Radbolts, a high-output setup may require careful timing or multiple research targets to avoid overflow.

In use, the Materials Study Terminal is the point where Radbolt production turns into scientific progress, making it the core consumer for Radbolt-based research. Its storage limit and overflow behavior are the main constraints, while the Laboratory bonus and the ability to chain terminals give it some flexibility in larger research setups.
