Mafic Rock

Overview
Mafic Rock is a naturally occurring element resource found in the Colony map. It is primarily valued for its low thermal conductivity, making it an effective insulating material compared with common raw rocks. Mafic Rock is categorized as non-plumbable, which defines its construction limitations and typical applications in base engineering.
Because Mafic Rock cannot be used to construct Liquid Pipe or any plumbable plumbing components, its practical uses center on thermal isolation rather than fluid transport. It serves as a solid alternative when

Practical notes and interactions:
- Thermal performance: Mafic Rock’s relatively low thermal conductivity makes it a good insulating block for slowing heat transfer through structures and piping runs.
- Construction limitations: Mafic Rock is not plumbable and therefore cannot be used to build Liquid Pipe or other plumbing-only building types.
- Substitute uses: When Insulite or Ceramic supply is limited, Mafic Rock is a reliable substitute for building Insulated Tile and Insulated Gas Pipe to provide large-scale insulation.
- Resource expectations: Although in-game descriptions state Mafic Rock is iron-rich, there is no in-game method to extract
Iron from Mafic Rock.
- Deployment tips: Use Mafic Rock to form thick insulating shells around heat sources, or to encase gas piping where Insulated Gas Pipe is otherwise unaffordable; avoid relying on it for any systems that require plumbable materials.
Mafic Rock’s role is therefore focused: an accessible insulating raw material suited to large-scale thermal management tasks but unsuitable for any plumbing functions or metal extraction.
