Boulder

A Boulder is a large rock obstacle found on the farm and in the Mines. On the farm, several boulders are present from the start of the game and can block access to bridges or other areas. In the Mines, boulders appear as breakable rock obstacles on certain floor ranges and in the Skull Cavern.

Farm boulders require a pickaxe upgraded to steel quality or better to remove. Breaking one yields 15 Stone. Once a farm boulder is removed, it never returns. The farm can also occasionally be hit by meteorites, which are different from boulders and may create additional obstacles.

Boulders in the Mines can be broken with any quality pickaxe. They yield 10 Stone when destroyed. Mine boulders appear on floors 1–39 and 81–119, and can also appear randomly in the Skull Cavern. Floors 41–79 use a different set of boulder graphics, but they behave the same way and still break for stone.

Because farm boulders are permanent obstacles at the beginning of the game, it is often worth prioritizing the steel pickaxe upgrade if one blocks useful access. Removing a boulder can open up shortcuts, fishing spots, or areas needed for farm layout planning. In the Mines, boulders are mainly a minor obstruction and a small source of Stone, especially when mining through early or mid-floor sections.
