A gourmet cooking ingredient.

Overview

Truffle Oil is an Artisan Good made in the Oil Maker from a Truffle, taking 6 hours to produce. It can also be obtained as a drop from Truffle Crabs, purchased from Marnie’s shop at the Desert Festival for Calico Eggs, or occasionally found in the Traveling Cart’s rotating stock.

Although its description labels it as “a gourmet cooking ingredient,” Truffle Oil is not used in any cooking recipes. Its main gameplay use is as a crafting ingredient for the Rain Totem. It is also required for Mayor Lewis’s mail quest, “Mayor’s Need,” which arrives on the 21st of Summer in year 2. Lewis sends the letter even if the player does not own a pig.

Truffle Oil has a few additional uses outside crafting:

  • It can be placed in the Sewing Machine spool to create the dyeable Dark Bandana Shirt.
  • It can be used as yellow dye at the dye pots in Emily and Haley’s house, 2 Willow Lane.

Because of its high value, Truffle Oil is usually worth producing from Truffles rather than selling the truffles directly. However, without the Artisan profession, iridium-quality truffles are more valuable when sold as-is than when turned into oil. This makes the profession an important factor when deciding whether to process truffles into oil for profit.

For players who encounter Truffle Oil through the Desert Festival or the Traveling Cart, it is often best saved for the Rain Totem, tailoring, dyeing, or the Mayor’s Need quest rather than sold immediately. It is a useful late-game Artisan Good with several niche applications, even though it has no role in cooking.
