Overview

Queen Slime is a Hardmode boss themed around The Hallow's crystal motif. She is a large, regal slime that summons smaller slime minions and uses a mix of jumping, charging, ranged Regal Gel attacks, and stomping shockwaves. Queen Slime is summoned only in The Hallow but the fight itself can occur anywhere; she does not enrage when the player leaves the biome after the encounter begins.

Queen Slime's behavior is split into two phases. In her first phase she behaves similarly to King Slime but faster and in bursts: she leaps toward the player and, if unable to reach them, will sink into the ground and teleport to a nearby location or directly on top of the player if no solid landing exists. After several jumps she will pause briefly and then use one of two attacks: she charges energy in her crystal and fires six gravity-affected Regal Gel projectiles that bounce off solid blocks twice, or she lunges while phasing through blocks to position herself above the player and performs a ground pound that creates a damaging shockwave on nearby solid blocks. When her health falls below 50% (maximum health is 9,000), Queen Slime grows large wings and begins flying above the player, passing through blocks. In this second phase she stops attempting to teleport and continues her previous attack types in altered patterns: she charges and fires Regal Gel projectiles in ten directions, initially forming an enclosed circle before spreading outward, and she attempts to fly above the player and then fall straight down to stomp, producing a shockwave on impact (if she cannot land on solid blocks within a short time she cancels the stomp and returns to flight). Queen Slime and her Regal Gel projectiles are slowed by liquids; in phase two she is no longer affected by liquids unless performing a stomp.

When damaged, Queen Slime spawns one of three smaller minions to aid her. These are Crystal Slimes that fire single crystal spike projectiles at a steady rate (their fire rate follows Expert Mode rules only if fewer than four Crystal Slimes are alive), Bouncy Slimes that fire pink bouncy gel projectiles, and flying slimes that attempt to deal contact damage like a Slimer. The Royal Gel does not confer immunity to the slimes she summons. The Bouncy and Crystal Slimes will not fire while floating on liquids.

Practical notes and strategies:

  • Minion control is critical: the slimes she summons spawn projectiles and can quickly overwhelm the player. Prioritize killing or avoiding minions.
  • Ranged rapid-fire weapons such as the Dart Pistol or Dart Rifle with Crystal Darts are effective against minions and can deal multiple hits to Queen Slime per projectile. The Daedalus Stormbow with Holy Arrows and summon support can also clear minions.
  • Life Drain is strong for magic users because it deals continuous damage around the cursor and provides life regeneration while damaging, allowing constant pressure on the boss and immediate damage to newly spawned minions.
  • Mobility is valuable: stay airborne with wings or mounts during phase one to avoid many attacks; during phase two remain nearer the ground and lure her down to avoid her aerial patterns. Any wings combined with flight-boosting accessories and dash items (Shield of Cthulhu) greatly improve dodging.
  • Palladium armor is useful early in Hardmode due to its Rapid Healing buff. Crystal Assassin armor is a common early Hardmode drop from Queen Slime and helps survivability.
  • Arena design tips: use several disconnected platforms so minions fall away from the fight; lava arenas are effective because Queen Slime is immune to lava while many of her minions are not (pair with Lava Waders or Terraspark Boots). Invisibility Potions reduce other enemy spawns and prevent Heavenly Slimes from chasing the player, but the buff breaks on damage.
  • Fight during daylight to improve visibility of her attacks. In Master Mode, certain mounts (e.g., The Black Spot) can keep the player above first-phase attacks.
  • Queen Slime can be defeated before other Hardmode bosses and before destroying Demon/Crimson Altars. Her loot includes upgraded versions of King Slime drops and exclusive items such as the hook counterpart and mount-summoning gear. Developer items are not obtainable from her Treasure Bag.

Additional details: Queen Slime was added in the 1.4 update alongside the Empress of Light and shares the Hallow theme; her AI and visuals were developed by different contributors. Her crown and wings appear as unique gore and trophy features, and certain world seeds (For the Worthy) alter her attack patterns, increasing the number of Regal Gels and changing their behavior. Defeating Queen Slime is not required for the Slayer of Worlds achievement.
