Mechanics Station

Overview

The Mechanics Station is a utility building that enables Duplicants to improve the efficiency of nearby machinery and installations. When a Duplicant uses the station, they only increase the efficiency of other buildings that share the same enclosed room as the Mechanics Station. The benefit is localized to the room; structures outside that room receive no effect from the station.

Because the station’s effect is confined by room boundaries, its placement determines which systems it can influence. Placing the Mechanics Station inside the same pressurized, insulated, or otherwise enclosed space as the target machinery ensures those buildings receive the efficiency improvement. Conversely, putting the station in a separate room, a corridor that is treated as a different room, or separated by doors or tiles that break room continuity prevents it from affecting equipment on the other side.

Practical usage and considerations:

  • Group related machines and the Mechanics Station within a single room to concentrate efficiency gains on a particular production line or set of systems.
  • Keep the station accessible so Duplicants can reach it without long travel times; the efficiency improvement only occurs when Duplicants actually use the station.
  • Room design matters: doors, open gaps, and certain tiles can create separate rooms, so verify that the station and targeted buildings are recognized as the same room by the game’s room-detection rules.
  • Multiple stations can be used to cover different rooms or distinct clusters of machinery; place one station per room to extend the benefit to each area.

The Mechanics Station functions as a localized productivity enhancer; thoughtful room layout and station placement are the primary means to apply its effect across a base.
