Puft

Overview
The Puft is a yellow, three-eyed critter commonly found in polluted environments. It ingests

Pufts are non-hostile and will flee when attacked. They search for nearby breathable material to inhale, and in normal ranch conditions they usually inhale in bursts, then rise toward the ceiling and excrete their output every few seconds. Their conversion rate is much better when their movement is restricted; if they spend too much time wandering or floating around the pen, production drops noticeably. They also will not produce droppings if they cannot rise upward, but this can be worked around by using a Pneumatic Door as the roof, since it blocks them from escaping while still allowing output to pass through.
A basic Puft ranch usually keeps liquid on the floor of the enclosure so the Slime remains in solid form and can be collected cleanly.
Pufts can lay all four of their morph eggs depending on age and whether a Puft Prince is nearby. The general trends are:
- The chance of laying a Puft egg decreases over time no matter what they are penned with.
- If not penned with a Puft Prince, the chance of laying Puft Prince eggs increases over time.
- If penned with a Puft Prince, the chance of laying Dense Puft and Squeaky Puft eggs increases over time.
The Puft Prince is functionally similar to the base Puft, but it can breathe all three gases and only excretes 10% of the inhaled mass. It is mainly useful as the breeding partner that unlocks Dense Puft and Squeaky Puft production. Puft Princes themselves only lay Puft eggs in practice, since their own Puft Prince egg chance disappears before it can matter.

The main practical challenge with Puft ranching is handling their habit of floating upward while their outputs need to stay accessible. Stable design and atmosphere control matter more than raw space, especially for Chlorine-heavy Squeaky Puft setups or Oxylite farms that rely on controlled Oxygen supply.
