Critter Feeder

Overview

The Critter Feeder is a feeding building used to influence Critter movement by providing a localized food source. When a Critter Feeder is present and stocked, Critters show a strong tendency to remain close to that food source and will wander far less than they would without a feeder. This behavior makes the feeder an effective tool for concentrating animals in a specific tile or region of the base.

Providing food via a Critter Feeder changes roaming behavior rather than creating new behaviors; animals do not need additional stimuli to use the feeder beyond having access to its food. The presence of a feeder alters the spatial distribution of nearby Critters so that they spend more time in the immediate vicinity of the feeder and less time wandering across wider areas.

Practical implications and usage notes:

  • Place feeders where you want Critters to congregate. A stocked Critter Feeder will act as an anchor point and reduce the animals’ roaming radius.
  • Use feeders to keep Critters close to work areas or away from delicate infrastructure by creating a consistent nearby food source.
  • Multiple feeders can be used to create separate gathering spots and manage distribution across larger enclosures; each feeder will attract Critters to its immediate area.
  • Feeders are effective regardless of language or localization: the behavior—Critters staying near their food source and wandering less—is consistent.
  • Because the feeder’s primary effect is spatial (reducing wandering), it is most useful in situations where controlling where animals move matters for base layout, safety, or task planning.

The Critter Feeder does not change a Critter’s dietary requirements or other intrinsic behaviors; its effect is limited to reducing roaming by making a fixed source of food available. Use it wherever you need reliable, localized containment of Critters through attraction to a stocked feeding point.
