Cobalt Gas

Cobalt Gas is a cobalt resource available in the game and associated with the same material chain as Cobalt Ore and refined Cobalt. It can be obtained during rocket missions from renewable space points of interest, including Swampy Ore Fields, where it appears at a rate of 54–162 kg per cycle. The resource is also shown in the gallery as gas cobalt surrounded by cobalt, indicating its relation to the broader cobalt family of materials.

In practical use, Cobalt Gas follows the same industrial pathways as cobalt-based materials. A Metal Refinery can convert 100 kg Cobalt Ore into 100 kg Cobalt at a 1:1 ratio, and this process requires Duplicant operation. A Rock Crusher can also process Cobalt Ore, but it is inefficient and should generally be avoided: 100 kg Cobalt Ore produces 50 kg Cobalt and 50 kg Sand. This also requires Duplicant operation. If managed through critters, Stone Hatches can eat Cobalt Ore and excrete Coal, which increases the chance of receiving Smooth Hatch eggs, while Smooth Hatches can eat Cobalt Ore and excrete Cobalt at 75% mass.

Cobalt is also notable for its extremely high thermal conductivity, making it a useful substitute for diamond in temperature shift plates when needed. This makes cobalt-based resources valuable not only as raw materials but also in base cooling and heat-transfer setups.
